PRESS RELEASE

26 June 1998

The Information Group

In preparation for the Island Games, the Information Group has started its work, the aim of which is:

  • To disseminate information in order to create the greatest possible interest in the Island Games, particularly among all the people of Gotland, and also to spread information about Gotland to all visitors.
  • To set up a press centre where all accredited journalists can obtain information, and to take various measures before and during the games to create an awareness of the Island Games, both on Gotland and in the rest of Sweden, and all the member islands.
  • To keep working groups and colleagues continuously informed about actions, events, and other things of significance for the activities. It is also essential that there should be information in both directions and that there are procedures and channels for internal information. Everyone should know where they can search for information.
  • To create an image to be adopted by all those concerned. The recipients must be given a uniform picture which they can immediately identify with the Island Games.

At present the Information Group consists of Susanne Gustafsson, information officer. Her everyday job is as information officer for one of the four business areas of AmuGruppen, and she also works with marketing and sales on Gotland. She has taken part in the last two Island Games, playing volleyball.

Sylve Nilsson has experience of major sporting events through his work with the Gotland Grand National. He works with safety matters for Destination Gotland.

Karin Lindvall is information secretary at Gotland Municipal Council. She and her colleagues at the management office have recently been busy with an important international event in Visby, the Hanseatic Days. Karin attended the Island Games in Jersey, spreading information about Gotland.

Åsa Wikström was also in Jersey last summer, and Karin and Åsa have acquired valuable knowledge about what it means to arrange the Island Games. Åsa is project coordinator for the Gotland Tourist Association and has also been involved in the Hanseatic Days.
