| A work group has been appointed to work alongside the
organisation for the actual competition. Under the motto of "More gold to Gotland in
1999", this group will create the best assumptions as possible for the Gotlandic
participants in the coming 1999 years NatWest Island Games. The group consists of
participants from each and every one of the 14 sports branches plus representatives from
Gotlands Idrottsförbund (Gotlands Sports Club). This will happen through an intensive concentration on the different trainers for each team. The work group has decided to incorporate three training camps. The reason for this is that all participants should get to know each other better and thus work together better. First competition cancelled - information miss or non-interest? Several of the participants and executives reported that the information was received too late, even though that the work group fixed the date for the first camp as early as December 17, 1997. The detailed programme (with speakers like Agneta Andersson and Göran Andersson, among others) was settled on Feb. 25, 1998. It was also decided that all information and registrations should go via the respective team managers in Team 99. On April 15th invitations were sent out to all respective sport managers. Even though 33 persons came, the lowest number of participants had been already established at 50, thus the cancellation. To arms for the next camp! Its very sad that the first camp didnt come to anything, but we must put that behind us and put all our energies to the remaining two. The next two camps will be held on and about Jan 6th (Trettondedagshelgen) and May 13th (Kristi Himmelfärdshelgen), 1999. |
