15 months to go
The preaparation for the VIII NatWest Island Games in Gotland 1999 is going on in accordance with the programme. It is now "only" 15 months to go and we can feel the temperature is going hotter. We have more and more questions from different Islands and we are trying to do our best to help.

Most question so far is about accomodation and as we said at our presentation in Jersey; there will be a "Games Village" at the military barracks just in the outskirts of Visby where we hope to accomodate all participants. If there is some team who don´t want to stay at the Games Village there is of course possible to stay in hotels.

We are co-operating with a major travel agency here in Gotland "Destination Gotland" and detailed information about accomodation in hotels are available from them. You find telephone and faxnumber and e-mailadress on the back of this Newsletter.

Delegation from Faroes
A small delegation from the Faroes visited Gotland a couple of weeks ago, just to look at the Games Village and make some hotel-reservation for next Year. If You have any thougts to do as the Faroes did, just let us know and we will help You.

Sponsorship
The agrement between IGA and NatWest Offshore about sponsoring for the next six Years has now been signed and the name of the Games is now "NatWest Island Games". We have got some posters and stickers from NatWest and will send it to You in a short while, as You then also can make some PR for the Games in Gotland next Year. If You want more, just give us a call.

Visit by the Executive-
Committée

According to the Constitution the Executive-Committée of IGA has to visit the place for the next Games a Year ahead of the beginning of the Games. At the meeting with the EC in Isle of Man some weeks ago the date for the visit was decided to the 25-20 of August. The Committée will look at all the venues and meet all the co-ordinators and also have meeting with the Organising Committée.

New Swimming hall for the Games???
For many Years there has been discussion about a new Swimming-hall in the local government here on Gotland. When we made our application in early -95, it was very close to a decision, but it didn´t come.

We have through the Years done our best to convince our politicans about the necessity of a new hall and now we have succeded. But probably too late for the Games. At the moment we don´t know wheter it will be ready to the start of the Games or not, but we really hope it will be.

Travelling to Gotland
The best way for travelling to Gotland is of course going by air. If You choose going by regular flight there is a lot of air-companies flying London-Stockholm and You can also fly Manchester-Stockholm with some of these companies. The flying-time is approximately two hours. From Stockholm You then will fly with Skyways which is our local company for domestic-
traffic.

This flight takes about 40-45 minutes. Skyways has only small planes with 50 seats and can only take normal luggage. They are for example not able to transport bikes and the pole for polejump. If You choose to go that way and You are carrying bikes/poles, we will make some transport by sea for this things.

The price for a flight London-Stockholm-Visby with SAS/Skyways is today 4.610 SEK which is app. 340 GBP. If this is an alternative for Your travelling, please let us know and we will advise You how to book.

Please also note that there will be waiting-time in Stockholm before You can go to Visby, if there is a lot of team who choose this way of travelling.
